OVERVIEW:
The potential of quantitative MR (qMR) has not translated into widespread clinical adoption, with a limited number of qMR imaging/spectroscopic biomarkers guiding clinical decisions. The translation of qMR biomarkers requires the knowledge, expertise and consensus of a broad range of stakeholders including radiologists, radiographers, research scientists, clinical physicists, imaging networks, metrologists; as well as the regulatory bodies, healthcare providers, imaging CROs, health economists and vendors.
Building on the experience of a BIC‐ISMRM chapter workshop held in Cardiff, UK, in 2022 (https://doi.org/10.1002/mrm.29704), we aim to open this timely discussion out to the international ISMRM community. At the previous workshop, survey questions were developed via consensus from a roundtable discussion of all attendees. The results found 3 main themes: Consensus (recommendations/frameworks, standardised language), Context Dependency (biomarker-dependent adaptability), and Product Profile (defining unmet need and end product) (Markus et al, ISMRM 23, 3391).
Attendees will hear the perspectives of 5 key international voices in qMR biomarker translation and have the opportunity to participate in a live, interactive survey throughout the symposium. The results of this survey, specifically designed to capture an international perspective, will be used in ongoing work to define a support framework for the translational pathway of qMR biomarkers.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
Research scientists, clinicians, radiographers, clinical scientists and other stakeholders interested in the clinical translation of qMR biomarkers.
AS A RESULT OF ATTENDING THIS COURSE, PARTICIPANTS SHOULD BE ABLE TO:
- Gain an understanding of the opportunities and challenges of clinical translation of qMR biomarkers from the perspective of key stakeholders;
- Have the opportunity to participate in defining an international picture of the opportunities and challenges of qMR biomarkers translation; and
- Input into the next steps for defining a framework to support the translational pathway for qMR biomarkers.
