Overview
This session is for graduate and postdoctoral students looking for information on what to do next. As there is no single recipe to successfully navigate a career, this session will provide examples of both academic and non-academic career paths for those who have graduate degrees, including academia around the world, industry, government, policy, and nonprofit/granting agencies. The session is broken into two parts: in part 1) we will present experiences in academic positions throughout different systems parts of the world and in part 2) we will present various non-academic careers.
Target Audience
This course is targeting graduate and postdoctoral students looking for information on what to do next.
Educational Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:
- Compare differences in academic systems throughout the world;
- List employment opportunities available outside of academia; and
- List what skills from a Ph.D. translate outside academia and research.
