Overview
This session will present an update on existing and upcoming MRI contrast agents. It will include a review of the principles of contrast agent mechanisms, describe common applications of gadolinium-based contrast agents, and provide an update on nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF) and gadolinium retention. Finally, non-gadolinium-based contrast agents will be discussed.
Target Audience
Radiologists and MRI physicists wanting to improve their knowledge regarding MRI exogenous contrast agents.
Educational Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:
• List the basic principles and mechanisms of MRI contrast agents; • Describe the benefits and limitations of gadolinium-based contrast agents;
• Appraise the availability and clinical and research roles of non-gadolinium-based contrast agents.
