Abstract:
Do verbal routines benefit language learning? We analyzed 122 child/mother interactions from 7-24 months of age. Proportion of mothers’ repetitive word combinations (frames) in child-directed speech (CDS) at 7 months was significantly correlated with child 24-month vocabulary, unlike repetition at other ages. Therapeutic and counseling ramifications will be offered.
