Overview
The main goal of the IMPACT program is to help researchers identify and articulate how their work will have impact (and thus plan their research work accordingly). The process involves explaining their work to others who are not in the same specific field, which forces a clarity that generally doesn't occur when speaking to people in the same area. This mini workshop is adapted to a four-hour format.
Target Audience
All participants can benefit from participation in this course. The skill of determining the actual impact of a project helps individuals plan the project optimally (efficient use of research time), advocate for the project (proposals), and communicate results (publications).
Educational Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:
- Develop an impact statement for their own work: a 1-3 sentence statement of why and how their work may lead to impact;
- Demonstrate increased comfort with considering and helping others to identify and state the core aspect of their research; and
- Explain what the impact may be for work described in the literature.
